In 1956, the Department of Radio Engineering and related specialties were prepared to establish, and young faculties and students are selected for further study at Tsinghua University;

In 1959, the Department of Radio Engineering was formally established, with three five-year undergraduate programs in Communications, Television and Electric Vacuum;

In 1962, two majors of Radar and Communications were established in the Department of Radio Engineering;

In 1977,the undergraduate students of Communication System Engineering, Information Engineering and Radio Technology were recruited after the resumption of the college entrance examination;

In 1979, the first batch of graduate students were enrolled in Communications and Information Systems;

In 1981, the master's degree program in second-level discipline of Communications and Information Systems was established;

In 1986, the doctoral program in the second-level discipline of Communications and Information Systems was established;

In 1986, the Institute of Electronics Engineering Technology was established;

In 1987, the Institute of Communication Technology was established;

In 1987, the Department of Automatic Control, the Department of Radio Engineering, the Department of Mechanics, and the General Office jointly constituted the School of Aeronautics;

In 1991, Professor Yongtan Liu was elected as the member of the Academy of Chinese Academy of Sciences (later renamed as academician);

In 1994, Professor Yongtan Liu was elected as one of the first batch of Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering;

In 1996, the Department of Radio Engineering was renamed the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, and five teaching and research offices were established including Communication Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Applied Electronic Technology and Microwave Technology;

In 1998, the Information and Communication Engineering was entitled to grant the doctoral degree in first-level disciplines.

In 1998, the discipline of Communication and Information Systems entitled in the first batch of distinguished professors of Changjiang Scholars;

In 1999, the postdoctoral research station for Information and Communication Engineering was established;

In 2001, the Communication and Information Systems was entitled as the national key discipline;

In 2001, Professor Naitong Zhang was elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering;

In 2003, the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering, the Institute of Communication Technology, and the Institute of Electronics Engineering Technology merged to form the Institute of  Electronics and Information Technology;

In 2005, the Institute of Image and Information Technology was established;

In 2005, the Institute of Microwave and Antenna Technology was established;

In 2007, the Communication and Information System discipline was re-evaluated as the National Key Discipline, and Signal and Information Processing was entitled as the National Key Nurturing Discipline;

In 2007, the undergraduate major of Information Countermeasure Technology began to enroll students;

In 2008, the undergraduate major of Remote Sensing Science and Technology began to enroll students;

In 2009, the undergraduate major of Electromagnetic Fields and Wireless Technology began to enroll students;

In 2009, the Institute of Electronics and Information Technology was renamed the School of Electronics and Information Engineering.
